National Institute of Ayurveda is an apex autonomous Institute under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India for promoting the growth and development of Ayurveda as a model Institute for evolving high standards of Teaching, Training, Research, and Patient Care and also to invoke scientific outlook to the knowledge of Ayurvedic System of Healthcare. The National Institute of Ayurveda was established on 7th February 1976 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. An independent Ayurvedic College was established in August 1946 by the Government of Rajasthan and this College was merged to form the National Institute of Ayurveda known as NIA in Ayurveda fraternity on 7th February 1976. This was one of the very few Ayurvedic Colleges in the country to introduce Post-Graduate Education in Ayurveda as early as 1970

National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), established on February 7, 1976, is a very successful institute that offers programs in the specialization of Ayurveda for which the college is famous since it started. This college is affiliated with Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurveda University (DSRRAU), Jodhpur. This College is accredited by NABH, NAAC, NIRF and also obtained deemed university status. The College is approved by the Central Council of Indian Medicines. It also has very great past and academic records which makes this college more interesting. It has national as well as international collaborations. Meanwhile, the Institute has 14 departments with dedicated faculty and skilled professionals in Ayurveda.

Since its establishment in 1976, the Institute has grown tremendously in the field of Teaching, Training, Research, Patient Care, etc., as a result of which it has now 14 Specialties for Post-Graduate Education as well as a Regular Fellowship Program leading to Ph.D. Apart from this, there is also Under Graduate course (BAMS), Diploma Course in AYUSH Nursing & Pharmacy, and various other certificate courses. NIA has a 280 bedded NABH accredited hospital which caters to around 3 lakhs Around 1200- 1500 patients visit NIA OPDs per day. The hospital is equipped with a modern well equipped Pathology Laboratory running in PPP mode. The institute is equipped with modern research instruments for drug standardization and research.

The Institute is not only a premier Institute under the Central Government but also among apex Institutions in the field of Ayurvedic education and training in the country and is comparable to none as far as Ayurveda is concerned. NIA has made a name of excellence in teaching, training, and patient care activities and incomparable academic standards in the field of Ayurveda at Graduation, Post-Graduation, Fellowship (Ph.D.) Diploma and Certificate levels. Also called NIA, the National Institute of Ayurveda was formed in 1976 to offer training and research facilities in Ayurveda in India. Located in Jaipur, it is a leading institution that was established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. It is counted among the eight national institutions that are devoted to “Indian Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy education”.

The institute’s origin dates back to 1946 when Government Ayurvedic College, Jaipur was established by the Government of Rajasthan. In 1976, it was merged with this institution and became the National Institute of Ayurveda. The institute is officially certified by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University, Jodhpur. The institute now offers fourteen specialties for the postgraduate program and nine specialties for Fellowship Program leading to Ph.D. Apart from these, graduate and diploma programs are also offered at the establishment. The institute is home to Ayurvedic teaching and research and is also one of the only two institutes that provides postgraduate study in Ayurveda under the support of the Government of India. The institute also offers academic facilities at the undergraduate level. Admission to these levels is based entirely on merit. The university conducts a national-level entrance exam to offer admissions.

Apart from academics, NIA also maintains a hospital to provide medical care by following Ayurvedic Treatment Methods. The hospital comes with facilities such as OPD, IPD, Central Laboratory, Primary Emergency Care Unit, Panchakarma Unit, and many more. It has served a large number of patients and has been awarded for providing Nasya Panckarma treatment to 800 people on 15th September 2017. The early institute was established as an independent Ayurvedic College by the Government of Rajasthan in 1946, which was later transformed into the National Institute of Ayurveda by the government of India. The institute was established on 7 February 1976 in Jaipur as an autonomous institute. On 13 November 2020, the Indian government announced that the NIA was Deemed to be a University under De-novo category providing teaching, clinical training, conducting research, and providing quality patient care services in the field of Ayurveda in India.

The institute was designated as one of nine national institutes established in India, for training and research in AYUSH systems of medicine by the Ministry of AYUSH. The institute offers a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree, a post-graduation MD (Ayurveda), and a post-doctoral degree Ph.D. (Ayurveda) in 14 specialties.

The institution provides clinical facilities at NIA Hospital, SSBW Hospital, Satellite Hospital, and SC/ST Hospital Ground. These hospitals are equipped with all kinds of modern technologies and infrastructure. The college is facilitated by a well-equipped lecture hall and well-ventilated classrooms. The college has an excellent library, it provides many books, reference materials, journals, and research papers related to Ayurveda. The college has a fully equipped laboratory which provides modern equipment. The organization is one of the eight national establishments set up in the country over, for preparing and examination in “Indian Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy instruction”, by the Department of AYUSH, Government of India, and the establishment of Ayurveda under the AYUSH.
